Earlier today, I presented my Master’s level research topic to the public. Erm, well, just to related colleagues and supervisors from Razak School actually. Haha!
Anyhow, we had a colloquium session today, for all of my company’s Industry PhD and Master’s candidates. It was basically a short introduction session on everyone’s research topic. Despite the simplicity of the event, it was still a “thrilling” experience. Academicians and industry players have more or less a different level of thinking. What we may consider in the industry may not be something the academicians ponder on, and vice versa. Thus, the event was in a way, an eye-opener for both sides I would say.
What's my research topic? Here goes... "Corrosion Performance of Zinc Coated Underhood Automotive Fasteners for Local Car Manufacturer". Fuh... ;) There is a whole lot of literature review that I need to conduct, and I'm only about 1/3 of the way through with all my sources (journals, papers, engineering related books, technical info, etc gathered). There's going to be more and more to go through as well. As the academicians commented to all of us today, literature review is a continous process throughout our study duration. :) That's just a portion of the research (literature and critical review). There's all the tests and characterization as well as analysis to be done also. :p My target is to complete my Master's program by end of next year (2013). Let's pray I'll get through it and excel! :)
The next colloquium is scheduled sometime in August / September, just a few months away from now. That session would be utterly different from today's as it will be a defensive session. We will be required to be thorough and defend our research work. Just thinking about it makes me all jittery. Haha! Wish me luck! :D
